It looks small because:

1. They smoothed the engine bay—hardly anything except the engine, radiator & brake system is left.

2. The engine is mounted to a subframe that hangs down pretty low.

Observe, a Miata with a smoothed engine bay and a Miata motor:

Still bigger than the rotary of course, but not quite so drastic of a difference.

Clearly you need to add a few more rotors in there.
